Brazilian left-back, Marcelo has become the latest players to win the UEFA Champions League and the Copa Libertadores following Fluminense's historic victory over Boca Juniors.

The former Real Madrid defender returned home to help his boyhood club win the South American version of the Champions League for the first time ever.

His latest achievement sees him join an illustrious list which includes the likes of Neymar Jr, Ronaldinho and most recently Julian Alvarez of Manchester City.

Sports Brief looks at the fourteen players who have accomplished the prestigious double in their career.

Juan Pablo Sorin

The first player to win the UEFA Champions League and the Copa Libertadores was the former Argentina left-back, who completed the double with Juventus and River Plate in 1996. It took Sorin only 35 days to achieve the feat, after first winning the Champions League with Juventus before moving to River Plate to win the South American championship.

Roque Junior

Three years later, Brazilian defender Roque Junior will win the Copa Libertadores with Palmerias before moving to Europe to win the UEFA Champions League with AC Milan in 2003. He was also part of the Brazil team that won the 2002 World Cup.

Cafu

Brazil's 2002 World Cup winning captain won the 1992 and 1993 Copa Libertadores with Sao Paulo before becoming an European champion with AC Milan in 2007.

Dida

Dida was teammates with Cafu when they won the UEFA Champions League with AC Milan in 2007, but before that he had won the South American champions league with Cruzeiro in 1997.

Carlos Tevez

A Boca Juniors legend, Tevez won the Copa Libertadores with his boyhood club in 2003 before moving to Europe, where he joined West Ham United in England. He later moved Manchester United, helping the Red Devils win the 2008 Champions League.

Walter Samuel

The former Inter Milan defender also won the Copa Libertadores with Boca Juniors before winning the Champions League under Jose Mourinho in 2010.

Ronaldinho

After winning the UEFA Champions League with Barcelona in 2006, the former AC Milan forward returned home to help Atletico Mineiro win the Libertadores in 2013.

Neymar and Danilo

The duo starred in the 2011 Copa Libertadores, helping Santos win the tournament before moving to Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively. Interestingly, Neymar won the UEFA Champions League with Barcelona in 2015 while Danilo played a role in Real Madrid's 2016 triumph.

Ramires and David Luiz

Another duo that achieved one of the titles with one club. The Brazilian pair helped Chelsea to a historic 2012 UEFA Champions League success before Ramires won the Libertadores with Palmeiras in 2020 while Luiz won it with Flamengo two years later.

Rafinha

After winning the UEFA Champions League in 2013 with Bayern Munich, he joined Flamengo to win the 2019 Copa Libertadores.

Julian Alvarez

The Manchester City striker was a teen sensation when he was the Copa Libertadores with River Plate in 2018, before moving to Europe few years later to win the UEFA Champions League in 2023.

Marcelo

Arguably the most successful of all the fourteen players. He won five UEFA Champions League titles with Real Madrid before joining his boyhood club, Fluminense, where he delivered in their 2023 Copa Libertadores triumph.

Marcelo wins Copa Libertadores with Fluminense

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Real Madrid defender, Marcelo has won the Copa Libertadores, the South American version of the Champions League, after helping boyhood club Fluminense beat Boca Juniors in the final.

A John Kennedy extra-time winner decided a dramatic encounter at the Maracana, with two players including the goal scorer sent off.

Marcelo, who joined the Brazilian outfit after an illustrious career with Real Madrid and Olympiacos in Europe, added another silverware to his glamorous cabinet.
