- Arsenal's defeat leaves them sitting third in the Premier League standings with 24 points
Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has shared his thoughts about his side's controversial winner against Arsenal.
The Magpies condemned the Gunners to a 1-0 defeat at St. James Park in what was the north Londoners' first league defeat of the season.
Anthony Gordon's 64th-minute goal was the only difference in the cracker that was riddled with a number of controversial refereeing decisions.
Sportbible reports that one of the key decisions made included the referee ruling that the ball did not go out of play in the build-up to Newcastle's goal.
Several camera angles appeared to show that the ball actually went out of play, only for match officials to rule that there was no offence to warrant disallowing the goal.
The decision left the Arsenal camp fuming, with Mikel Arteta describing the decision as a 'disgrace' and 'embarrassment.'
Howe speaks on Newcastle's controversial goal
However, Howe, Arteta's opposite at St. James' Park, has come out to launch a passionate defence for his side.
Speaking after the match, the tactician claimed that the touchline did not provide a clear view of the incident.
"We’re in the dark, we’re stood by the side of the pitch seeing VAR on the screen but with no pictures," the Newcastle boss told Sky Sports, as quoted by Metro UK.
"I haven’t seen anything other than what I saw at the time. It looked a good goal to me," he added.
