David de Gea: Ex Man Utd star shares cryptic social media post amid return rumours
FootballDavid de Gea Leaves Sarcastic Comment on Bruno Fernandes Post After Win Over Fulham
- David de Gea joined in the calls of calling out Bruno Fernandes, albeit in a sarcastic tone
- Fernandes has had his role as Manchester United captain questioned in recent weeks
- The midfielder came up grand for Erik ten Hag, scoring a late winner against Fulham
David de Gea left a sarcastic comment on Bruno Fernandes' Instagram post minutes after Manchester United secured a last-minute win over Fulham on November 4.
The Red Devils left it until late at Craven Cottage to sneak in a slender 1-0 win courtesy of another Fernandes ingenuity.
It wasn't a masterful performance from Erik ten Hag's side, but they will welcome the three points nonetheless, which helped them snap a run of two back-to-back 3-0 defeats.
As TNT Sports notes, Fernandes' goal was the third time he has scored late this season to help his side secure maximum points.
Concerns over Fernandes' captaincy
It has been a topsy-turvy season for the Portuguese midfielder who was installed as the club's captain this season. Amidst United's poor form, there have been calls that he has failed to step up, with former captain Roy Keane leading the criticism.
De Gea, who played with Fernandes until he left last season, took to Instagram and said,
"You are not the right captain."
There have been rumours that the Spanish shot-stopper could seal a sensational return to Old Trafford. He is yet to secure another club and with Andre Onana set to leave for the Africa Cup of Nations next year, they could use another pair of hands.
Onana's early days at Manchester United have been full of rookie mistakes and concession of 'easy' goals.
How de Gea compares to Onana
Sports Brief previously compared de Gea's stats to Onana's after the former Ajax goalkeeper's slow start between the sticks for the Red Devils, which earned him criticism from fans.
The 27-year-old bettered his predecessor in ball-playing abilities but performed below par in actual goalkeeping stats. It evidently confirms the Spanish star being the better shot-stopper but poorer with his feet.
