FootballLuis Diaz: Jurgen Klopp Provides Positive Update on Liverpool Star With Dad’s Release Looming
- Luis Diaz could be in contention to play for Liverpool against Luton if he avails himself
- The star's parents were kidnapped last week, ruling him out of the Bournemouth clash
- Diaz's mother has since been freed and his father is also expected to be released soon
Colombian winger, Luis Diaz could play a part in Liverpool's trip to Luton Town on Sunday if he avails himself after missing last week's tie following the kidnapping of his parents.
Reports emanated out of the South American nation last week that the parents of the Reds' winger had been kidnapped, with his mother released by the second day.
His father, Luis Manuel Diaz is yet to be released despite the intervention of the Colombian government, who named the ELN guerilla group as the kingpin behind the abductions.
Per Mirror UK, the group have responded through their representatives that Luis Diaz Senior will be released as soon as possible after about a week in detention.
Klopp provides update on Diaz
Diaz missed last week's 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest and the midweek's Carabao Cup 2-1 win over Bournemouth away at the Vitality Stadium.
The Reds will travel to Kenilworth Road on Sunday to face Luton Town, and coach Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on the star player's availability.
"We just wait to see where we can pick the boy up from and go from there. It's all about him whether he makes himself available or not, and I don't want to force anything," he said via Sky Sports.
"If he feels right, he will be with us. You can see he didn't sleep a lot. The news from Colombia gives us a little bit of hope. I cannot say what we will do. It's up to him if he makes himself available or not," the German managed added.
The former FC Porto star has contributed three goals for the Reds this season after overcoming last season's injury woes, which kept him out for most of the campaign.
Liverpool's Merseyside derby dominance means nothing, says Klopp

Jota dedicates goal to Diaz
Sports Brief has previously reported on Diogo Jota dedicating his goal to Diaz after opening the scoring for Liverpool in their 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest last weekend.
The Portuguese ran to the touchline and held up the winger's number 7 jersey as a sign of solidarity following troubling news about the abduction of Diaz's parents.
