- Diaz was left out amid reports his parents were subjected to a kidnapping incident in Colombia on Saturday
Diogo Jota was hailed for showing his class as he dedicated his goal for Liverpool against Nottingham Forest to Luis Diaz.
Jota was in the starting XI on Sunday, October 29 as Jurgen Klopp omitted Diaz from the squad.
The 25-year old winger was left out for compassionate reasons as reports from his native Colombia claim his parents have been kidnapped.
In his pre-match comments, Klopp confirmed his reasons for omitting Diaz, saying the situation was “worrying for all of us”.
"We had to obviously make a late change because of the private situation involving Luis Diaz," Klopp said, as cited on BBC.
"It was a pretty tough night. I have never had that before. It's a new experience I never needed."
Liverpool, in a separate club statement, said Diaz’s welfare "will continue to be our immediate priority".
Jota’s classy gesture
In the absence of Diaz, Liverpool were in typical attacking mood, and they made their dominance against the visitors count with a goal just after the half hour mark.
Mohamed Salah played in Darwin Nunez, and the Uruguayan’s shot came off the goalkeeper, with Jota on hand to smash home the rebound.
Immediately after scoring, Jota ran to the bench to pick up a Luis Diaz shirt before holding it up in the air, in support of his teammate.
Four minutes later, Liverpool made it 2-0 as Nunez got in on the action as he benefited from a pullback from the byline from Dominik Szoboszlai.
