  • Mauricio Pochettino has called on fans to back the team during a difficult time

Chelsea will hope to return to winning ways when they host Blackburn Rovers at Stamford Bridge in the Carabao Cup, after their embarrassing 2-0 loss to Brentford on Saturday.

Prior to the Bees' win, the Blues were on a run of four games without defeat, as it looked as if their shaky season was getting back on track before the reality check at the weekend.

Chelsea remain in the bottom half of the table after 12 games and look far from a team in which £1 billion-plus in transfer fees has been invested since the Todd Boehly-led consortium took over.

Frustration is beginning to build with fans and per Daily Express, striker Nicolas Jackson was confronted by a fan at half-time, which required the intervention of the head coach.

Pochettino's message to Chelsea fans

The Carabao Cup presents the Blues with a realistic chance of silverware this season, as they are statistically out of the Premier League title race even before it has realy begun.

Speaking ahead of the round of 16 tie against 12th-placed EFL Championship side Blackburn, as quoted by Football London, Pochettino has sent a message to the Blues fans.

"I think it's about being with us. I know it's difficult to keep your feelings, it is normal. The fans want to win and sometimes are frustrated if we don't win. They can show their emotions, but the message is to believe and trust in us," the Argentine coach stated.

Poch confirmed he would name a strong side to face the second-tier side and added that captain, Reece James will start his first game since getting injured in the opening-day draw against Liverpool.

Pochettino confirms Chelsea's penalty taker

Sports Brief has also reported on Pochettino confirming Chelsea's penalty taker after a recent dispute over who kicks from 12 yards if the team is awarded - and he selected Cole Palmer.

The former Manchester City star argued with Raheem Sterling over a spot kick during the 2-2 draw against Arsenal. Enzo Fernandez settled things and gave a chance to Palmer, who scored.
