  • Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer appeared to fight for penalty duties during the London derby
  • It took the intervention of Enzo Fernandez to settle the matter, with Palmer allowed to take it
  • Poch has since backed the summer signing for the role

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has suggested Cole Palmer will be the club's outright penalty taker.

The Argentine discussed the subject after last weekend's incident when Palmer and Raheem Sterling appeared to argue about who would take Chelsea's penalty against rivals Arsenal.

The incident happened in the 15th minute of the London derby staged at Stamford Bridge.

According to Goal, Sterling stepped in and argued that he should be the one to take the spot-kick, with Palmer at the centre of the spat.

Enzo Fernandez was forced to intervene as the peacemaker, giving the young summer signing the nod to take it.

Palmer made no mistake from the spot as he sent David Raya the wrong way to hand the Blues the lead during the cracker.

Pochettino gives Palmer penalty duties

Days after the incident, Pochettio has hinted the former Manchester City will be Chelsea's outright penalty taker.

According to the Blues' boss, while he will leave it up to the players to decide in the heat of the moment who should take penalties from now, Palmer will assume that responsibility without question if he is on the pitch.

"There are a few players who can take the penalty. It’s about their feelings. As a coaching staff we give them the responsibility to decide on the pitch," Poch said via Metro UK.
"It’s not only one player, that this player is going to be in charge. It shows that Cole was ready to take the two penalties he took. Normally it is going to be him if he is on the pitch. But if not I’d be happy with Raheem, with Nico (Jackson).
"For me, the most important thing is to have the decision and the personality to go," he added.

Cole Palmer apologises to Pochettino

At the same time, Sports Brief reported that Chelsea summer signing, Cole Palmer has apologised for throwing a bottle at Mauricio Pochettino during the London derby against rivals Arsenal.

Palmer was among the goalscorers as the two Premier League giants played out a 2-2 draw over the weekend at Stamford Bridge.
