Ernest Nuamah: Ghanaian Forward Nominated for CAF Young Player of the Year Award

Ghana and Olympique Lyonnais forward, Ernest Nuamah has been nominated for the 2023 CAF Young Player of the Year award.

Nuamah, who turned 20 on November 1, will face competition from some of the best young talents on the continent, including Burkina Faso and Bournemouth midfielder, Dango Ouattara, and Nigeria's Gift Orban.

The 20-year-old enjoyed an outstanding campaign in the 2022/23 season in the Danish Super Liga while playing for FC Nordsjaelland.

In a list released on CAF's official website, Nuamah is joined by nine other young players.

He was named the Danish Player of the Year and the Young Player of the Year following his dazzling performances in the league, helping Nordsjaelland finish second.

The Right to Dream Academy graduate was also nominated for the Kopa Trophy, which was eventually won by Jude Bellingham, as reported by 3news.com.

Nuamah earned his maiden Black Stars call-up in June and made his senior national team debut in the game against Madagascar. He has since scored two goals in five appearances for the Black Stars.

He joined French outfit Olympique Lyonnais in the summer transfer window for a Danish record transfer fee.

Nuamah joins Olympique Lyon in record deal

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Nuamah joined French giants Olympique Lyonnais in the summer transfer window from Danish club FC Nordsjaelland.

The 19-year-old signed a deal reportedly worth a €25m fixed fee plus €5m add-ons, making him the club's most expensive signing.

Nuamah also became the most expensive transfer from the Danish league, breaking the record set by compatriot Kamaldeen Sulemena following his move to Stade Rennais in 2021.
