FootballMarcus Rashford: Erik ten Hag Backs Man Utd Striker Amidst Goal Drought
- Manchester United lost the derby to rivals City in embarrassing fashion at Old Trafford
- Marcus Rashford's abysmal form in front of goal continued with a bad miss against City
- Erik ten Hag is confident in his player's ability to regain his goal-scoring form from last season
Marcus Rashford is struggling in front of goal after his goal-scoring form dipped close to the end of last season and is yet to recover, but Erik ten Hag is confident in his player.
Rashford had another bad day in front of goal during Manchester United's 3-0 home loss to rivals Manchester City, with United's best chance falling to him in the second half, and he somehow missed.
Per Transfermarkt, he scored 30 goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions for United last season, including 17 in the league, but has just one in all competitions this season.
His struggles this season have led to growing calls from fans and pundits to have Erik ten Hag to drop him till he rediscovers himself, but the manager is adamant and is retaining his position game by game.
Ten Hag backs Rashford
The Dutch manager insisted playing him in every game would make him regain his confidence ahead of the derby, and his stance did not change despite his performance in the loss.
"It will come, the moment will come. He needs that goal, and every time he plays, he will get chances," he said in his post-match conference via Sportskeeda.
His poor form did not start this season but was carried over from last season, with just one goal in his last 18 games and just six in his last 30, raising big concerns over his ability to lead the line for the Red Devils.
United's next game is a Carabao Cup round of 16 tie against Newcastle United, the team they beat 2-0 to win last season's final, before away trips to Fulham and Copenhagen, then a home game against Luton Town before the international break.

FootballOnana saves Haaland's header
While Rashford is struggling, one of his teammates is rediscovering himself. As Sports Brief reported Onana's brilliant save from Haaland's header in the first half of United's 3-0 loss to rivals City in the Manchester derby.
The Red Devils could have gone into halftime two goals down if not for the save. The most embarrassing thing that happened was the defence allowing the routine to be repeated in the second half, this time, the striker scored.
