  • Mauricio Pochettino suffered another loss as Chelsea boss on October 28
  • Bryan Mbeumo assisted and scored in Brentford's 2-0 victory over the Blues
  • Thomas Frank's side became the first team to win their first three consecutive Premier League games at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea's latest renaissance suffered a huge setback after Brentford beat them 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues walked into the game looking to build on their four-game unbeaten streak, only for a resilient Brentford to undo the belief with some fine piece of tactical ingenuity.

As expected, Chelsea dominated large periods of the game, moving the ball mainly in Brentford's half, but failed to beat Mark Flekken in the Bess goal.

Chelsea's chances vs Brentford

Their best chance came through Noni Madueke, whose shot hit the upright before Marc Cucurella failed to capitalise on a wonderful lob from Cole Palmer.

Ethan Pinnock broke the deadlock from a perfectly weighted Bryan Mbeumo pass to pile more frustration on the home side.

Pochettino had started the game with a lean squad after Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk failed to make it to the match-day squad. The Argentine threw on his captain Reece James and young striker Deivid Washington for his debut in search of an equaliser.

In stoppage time, Chelsea sent everyone upfront, including goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, only for the ball to break kindly for Mbeumo and Neal Maupay. Maupay threaded the ball to Mbeumo, who rolled it to the back of an empty net. It was the third consecutive time that the Cameroon international was scoring at Stamford Bridge.

The defeat is set to be demoralising, with Pochettino facing his former side, Tottenham Hotspur, in the league next. He will first play Blackburn in the Carabao Cup before the showdown in North London on November 6. The high-flying Spurs are yet to lose a game this season.
