FootballChristopher Nkunku: Chelsea Star Hands Pochettino Injury Boost As He Nears Return to Training
- Christopher Nkunku could be nearing his return to training from a knee injury
- He impressed in pre-season but got injured in the final game against Borussia Dortmund
- The France international could be back ahead of schedule as he steps up his recovery
Mauricio Pochettino could be handed more ammunition in attack before the new year, with new signing Christopher Nkunku set to be back in action before the end of the year.
The Blues have kick-started their Premier League season despite a poor start and are unbeaten in their last four games, picking up seven points in their last three league games.
Head coach Pochettino has had to make do with the team available to him, with some new signings and key players yet to taste competitive action due to injuries.
One of those new signings missing in action since pre-season is Nkunku, whom Chelsea paid £52 million for his signature from RB Leipzig last summer, per Sky Sports.
Nkunku nears training return
The France international impressed in pre-season with four goals but unfortunately went off injured in the first half of the final game against Borussia Dortmund.
He has been out of action since undergoing surgery on a knee injury. He was expected to return to action as early as January, but the latest report suggests he could be back earlier.
According to Talk Chelsea, the 25-year-old is stepping up his recovery and will soon start cardio work, which is an important step to returning to light training.
The report added that the club will be very cautious with the player as he shuttles between Paris and London for different phases of his rehabilitation.
If the progress is maintained, he could be back training with the team, making a matchday squad and before the end of the year, he could be back in action.
