Super Eagles star Victor Boniface has become Nigeria's most expensive player after his impressive start for Bayer Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga this season.

The former Bodo/Glimt striker joined the Bundesliga outfit in the summer from Belgian side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise for a reported fee of €20m.

The Nigerian striker has proved to be a bargain for Xabi Alonso's side, as he has scored seven goals and assisted another three in eight games in the Bundesliga in the ongoing campaign.

In the latest update by Transfermarkt, the Super Eagles star's market value increased from €12m to €40m, according to The Punch.

The Nigerian international was one of the players with a huge increase in value in the recent update.

Boniface is now the second most expensive Nigerian player in the transfer market, with Victor Osimhen still top of the list.

The 22-year-old striker's increase in transfer value will come as good news for Leverkusen, which means they would get more money from his sale if he eventually decides to leave next summer.

Several top clubs in Europe are already monitoring the Super Eagles star's progress in Germany and could be on the prowl next summer.

Premier League sides Manchester City and Newcastle are both interested in bringing the Nigerian international to England but will face stiff competition from Spanish La Liga giants Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.

Guardiola reportedly targets Boniface

Sports Brief earlier reported that Boniface has reportedly caught the eye of Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, as the Spanish manager seeks a rival for Erling Haaland.

The Bayer Leverkusen forward is a type of striker that fits into the former Barcelona manager's style of play, as he is not only just about goals but can give more options in attack.

The Cityzens are not the only European club side believed to be monitoring the 22-year-old, with Serie A giants, Juventus also on the lookout for an opportunity to swoop in.
