Former Barcelona defender, Gerard Pique cannot catch a break from injuries despite announcing his retirement from football in October last year.

Pique gradually faded from the limelight after a tumultuous final year in football, which was marked by various unpleasant incidents, including Barcelona's financial crisis that contributed to his retirement, as well as his less-than-amicable separation from his long-time partner, Shakira. However, he recently made a comeback into the spotlight.

This resurgence is mainly attributed to his involvement in the King's League, a football project he initiated. The King's League frequently features well-known personalities facing off against former or amateur footballers in an entertaining, shortened format. One of his notable collaborators in this venture is YouTuber Ibai Llanos.

Following the enormous success of the King's League in Spain, Pique and Llanos expanded their endeavour to the Americas, as reported by TheMessenger.com.

At the unveiling of their second franchise targeting Latin and American audiences, an unexpected and amusing incident took place during the launch event, once again thrusting the former Barcelona defender into the spotlight, albeit in a manner quite different from what he had expected.

During the event, Pique, seemingly distracted while listening to something on his phone, unintentionally missed a gap between a barrier and the stage as he approached a fan to sign a Barcelona shirt. This resulted in a rather painful fall, causing him to disappear from view entirely.

A video of the incident, shared by Centre Goal on social media, has generated significant attention, with many fans quick to react to the former Barcelona man's fall.

Fans' reactions to Pique's fall

@AlexisFahhz, in a sarcastic tone, posted:

"That must hurt."

@aday__7 teased Pique with the comment:

"Blud did an own goal."

@AFC_HuNcho humorously connected the fall to Pique's split from Shakira, saying:

"We can all agree that we have Shakira to blame for this."

@HamiltonAngius, unable to contain his laughter, posted multiple laughing emojis:

"😂😂😂😂😂"

@harecules humorously speculated:

"Did he fall to a different dimension?"

Casillas trolls Pique

Sports Brief previously reported that Iker Casillas trolled Pique by requesting Shakira's hit song Waka Waka at the King's League, a seven-a-side tournament the former Barcelona star organised.

Fans were chanting "Shakira Shakira" at one of the games, and the Real Madrid legend played along by asking for the song to be played to spite his old-time rival.
