Gerard Pique’s newly-formed Kings League drew the curtain on its inaugural season over the weekend.

The seven-a-side competition, which has drawn tremendous attention and caught the eyes of many lovers of the game, has witnessed the presence of many football icons.

Retired stars, including Manchester City's Sergio Aguero and Real Madrid's Iker Casillas are a few of the notable names to have consistently featured in league.

Pique, who formed the competition this year, addressed the fans during the Kings League's end-of-season celebration.

As the retired Barcelona defender was speaking, it was the action of former rival, Casillas, that stirred up the crowd, sending them into a frenzy.

Casillas taunts Pique over Shakira

During Pique’s address to the audience and amid chants of 'Shakira' echoing around the area in Madrid, the Real Madrid legend requested Waka Waka be played as well, per a report by Sportskeeda.

The Colombian pop star's hit was the theme song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Pique and Shakira were in a relationship for more than a decade and have two children - Milan and Sasha - together. The couple broke up last year after the pop star accused the defender of cheating on her.

Announcing the news of their break-up at the time, the singer wrote on her Instagram:

"We regret to confirm that we are parting ways. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy. Thank you for your understanding."

Shakira has since relocated to the United States with both of her children and is rumoured to be in a relationship with Formula 1 star, Lewis Hamilton.

Sports Brief also reported on Gerard Pique being heavily criticised online by a streamer, following his break-up with pop star, Shakira.

At the time, the Colombian had released a diss track which went viral, as she subtly hit out at the ex-footballer and his girlfriend.

During a Kings League show on Twitch, streamer AuronPlay blasted the 35-year-old for being immature about the union ending.
