According to reports from La Nacion, the 39-year old was detained at the Resort Yacht & Golf Club Paraguayo alongside his brother Roberto.

Authorities reportedly found their passports which bore their respective names but with Paraguaiyan nationality.

The brothers are set to stay at the hotel room as authorities prepare to issue a statement on Thursday.

Speaking on the incident, Paraguay's interior minister Euclides Acevedo attempted to quell any public tension as he insisted the pair were not under arrest but simply under investigation.

"[Ronaldinho and his brother] are not being detained, they are still under judicial investigation and they have to testify. Then it will be decided whether they will be arrested or not," Paraguay's interior minister Euclides Acevedo told ESPN Brasil.

He went on to add that the skillful Brasilian and his brother were fully cooperative with authorities.
