The football world is still coming to terms with the death of a footballing giant in Sir Bobby Charlton.
Regardless of what team or player one supports, it is almost impossible to talk about football greats without having the late Manchester United legend in the conversation.
Charlton passed away “peacefully” in the wee hours of October 21, and multiple reports state he was in the presence of close family members.
As reported on BBC, his passing comes three years after he was diagnosed with dementia, which entails loss of memory, language, and problem-solving abilities of day-to-day life.
Bobby Charlton, despite his death, has etched his name on the football history books, and it is unlikely he will be forgotten any time soon.
Charlton’s records and ‘ties’ with Messi
As a player, Bobby Charlton won three league titles, an FA Cup and a European Cup, all while playing for Manchester United in an illustrious 17-year career.
He was also crucial for the England national team as he guided The Three Lions to a famous World Cup triumph in 1966. Interestingly, that was the last time England won the coveted piece of silverware.
In that particular World Cup campaign, he scored three goals in the tournament despite predominantly being a midfielder. Two of those goals came against Portugal in the semis, where England won 2-1.
Thanks to his World Cup heroics, Charlton won the Ballon d’Or in 1966, something which put him among an elite group of football players who have won the prestigious individual accolade, a World Cup and a European trophy.
