FootballJohn Terry: Chelsea Legend Disagrees With Penalty Decision Against Saliba
- Chelsea and Arsenal settled for a 2-2 draw in a pulsating game at Stamford Bridge
- The Blues took the lead in the first half through a penalty after William Saliba's handball
- Former Blues captain John Terry disagreed with the decision to award the penalty
Chelsea legend John Terry is honest and admitted that the penalty awarded to his former club against Arsenal would have left him fuming if such was against him.
Chelsea and Arsenal settle for a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge in a pulsating London derby, and while the Blues would feel undone by how the game ended, they can take consolation in their gameplay.
Cole Palmer gave the Blues the lead in the first half through a contentious penalty after William Saliba's handball before Mykhailo Mudryk scored a screamer to double the lead.
Per Daily Star, goalkeeper Robert Sanchez gave the Gunners a lifeline after he sent a pass straight at Declan Rice, who fired home before Leandro Trossard equalised for Arsenal.
Terry disagrees with Chelsea's penalty
Mudryk headed Raheem Sterling's cords into the arm of French defender Saliba, who had jumped to meet the cross but was beaten by the Ukrainian winger.
The penalty was given after a VAR review, with many fans questioning where else the defender should have kept his arm when flying for a header, and the Blues legend agrees.
As seen in a post on his official X account, Terry admitted he would have been fuming if given against him.
"Delighted we got the Penalty but I don’t agree with the rules on this, very harsh on defenders. I would have been fuming if that was given against me back in the day. But happy now," he wrote.
Summer signing Palmer calmly dispatched the penalty, sending David Raya the wrong way to give the Blues a strong start.
Sterling and Palmer argue over penalty
Sports Brief reported on Sterling and Palmer arguing over who would take the contentious penalty given to the Blues in their 2-2 draw against Arsenal.
The two former Manchester City stars were dragging the ball before Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez waded in and passed the ball to the 21-year-old, who scored, and the whole team brushed it aside and celebrated the goal.
