Real Madrid’s quest to find a suitable manager to replace Carlo Ancelotti next season has led the Spanish club to the doorsteps of AS Roma boss Jose Mourinho.
The veteran Italian manager is expected to leave his post at Madrid at the end of the season to take over as Brazil’s boss, leading the Spanish club to start sorting for the best candidate for the managerial position.
According to GOAL, Mourinho, who coached Real Madrid for three seasons, is being floated around the capital club as a preferred candidate to occupy the hot seat when Ancelotti departs.
The 61-year-old manager, who is currently in charge of AS Roma, will become a free agent next summer when his current deal with the Serie A giants expires and could return to Spain without a hitch.
Real Madrid first appointed Mourinho as their manager in the summer of 2010, and the Portuguese went on to win the Copa del Rey in 2011 and edge Barcelona to the 2011/12 La Liga title.
Mourinho set to reject Saudi offer
Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho is set to reject the "biggest and craziest offer" in managerial history from the Saudi Pro League for a return to Real Madrid next summer, Daily Mirror reports.
The Public Investment Fund, Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, owners of Newcastle United and Al Hlal, is willing to give the Portuguese coach a staggering £104 million two-year contract.
Mourinho is, however, thought not to be considering the tempting offer after it emerged he could be in line for a surprise return to manager Real Madrid when Carlo Ancelotti leaves next summer.
