  • Sergio Ramos plans not to celebrate against Real Madrid if he scores
  • Ramos spent 16 years with Los Blancos before his exit in 2021
  • The Spanish defender rejoined Sevilla this summer from PSG

This weekend’s La Liga game between Sevilla and Real Madrid will be full of nostalgia for Sergio Ramos as the defender faces his former club for the first time since his departure in 2021.

The 37-year-old defender enjoyed 16 trophy-laden years with Los Blancos, in which he won the UEFA Champions League five times and two La Liga titles before he left for Paris Saint-Germain.

According to Tribuna, Sevilla vice president, Jose María del Nido Carrasco does not expect Ramos to celebrate if he scores against Real Madrid this weekend.

“I imagine he won’t celebrate. I haven’t asked him, but I imagine he won’t celebrate. Although he’s from Seville and grew up here, his two homes are Sevilla and Real Madrid.”

Ramos has settled in swiftly at Sevilla this season, even playing the entire match against Barcelona; he made headlines for the wrong reasons, as his own goal proved to be the deciding factor between the two sides.

Ramos is an on-field coach

Meanwhile, Sevilla defender Loic Bade admits that Ramos is making a huge on-field difference in the team since his arrival this summer from Paris Saint-Germain, Tribal Football reports.

Bade, who hailed the 37-year-old former Real Madrid defender as the best in the world, explained that Ramos acts as an on-field coach during matches for the Andalusian side.

Ramos started his career at Sevilla before sealing a career-defining move to Real Madrid in 2005, where he won multiple trophies before a two-year spell with PSG before returning to his hometown club.

Ramos set for Real Madrid reunion

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ramos has not played against Real Madrid since 2005, but on Saturday, his Sevilla team will welcome the Spanish league leaders to the Sanchez-Pizjuan for a reunion.

New Sevilla coach, Diego Alonso faces a stern test in his first game at the helm, and in the experienced veteran centre-back Ramos, he has a player who can offer plenty of insight into Carlo Ancelotti's Madrid side.

Ramos controversially left Sevilla for the Spanish capital at the age of 19, which some fans have never forgotten, even though the majority welcomed him back with open arms this summer.
