South African club, TS Galaxy have released an official statement following the career-threatening injury to their veteran forward, Bernard Parker.
Parker suffered a fracture during their Carling Knockout Cup clash with Mamelodi Sundowns at the Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga.
The intense fixture was marred by the horrific injury to the veteran, whose career may be in jeopardy after a late Bongani Zungu challenge.
Parker was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention amid concern from club officials and fans.
The match ended 2-2 after regulation time and proceeded into a shootout, with TS Galaxy emerging victorious 5-4 on penalties, GOAL reports.
The Rockets have now released an official statement, wishing the player a speedy recovery and admitting his career could well be over.
"We wish Bernard Parker a speedy recovery following a horrific injury last night. We’ve lost a soldier whom we shall dearly miss as our journey on the battlefield continues. Come back stronger, Die Hond! We dedicate last night’s victory to you."
Mokwena defends Zungu after horror tackle
In his reaction to the incident involving Parker, Sundowns manager Mokwena defended Zungu, saying there was no malicious intent.
As Sports Brief previously reported, he did send his best wishes to the striker, who is now recuperating in hospital after his injury.
"I hope it is not as serious as it looks. Knowing Bongani, it was not malicious and [there] was no malicious intent behind it. The only thing I can say is that I wish Bernard Parker a speedy recovery."
