  • Reece James has been sidelined for weeks with a hamstring strain picked up in the first game of the season
  • However, the Englishman is understood to be in contention ahead of Chelsea's EPL clash against Arsenal
  • The Blues head into the tie off a poor run of form that has them sitting 11th in the standings

Chelsea have been handed a major injury boost in the shape of Reece James ahead of their London derby against Arsenal.

The Blues are scheduled to host the Gunners at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Saturday, October 21.

The cracker comes at a time when the two teams are worlds apart in terms of form, with Mikel Arteta's charges yet to suffer defeat so far this season.

Arsenal's impressive form has them sitting joint-top in the EPL standings with 20 points, alongside rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who are equally unbeaten this season.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have endured a frustrating start to the campaign, as they currently sit 11th with 11 points after eight games.

Reece James set for return

However, the west Londoners have been given a much-needed boost, with James in line to make a return to action against the Gunners this weekend, per Metro UK.

The England international has endured an injury-hit campaign so far, having already missed the last seven weeks.

According to Football London, James has been out of action after he picked up a hamstring strain in the first game of the season against Liverpool.

Reports suggest he has since been working on his rehabilitation as he eyes a return to action.

With Marc Gusto currently serving a ban, James' imminent return will serve as a major boost for Mauricio Pochettino, who is desperate for a cover.

Mudryk scores first Chelsea goal

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Mykhailo Mudryk has finally scored his first goal for Chelsea since he joined them during the January transfer window.

The Ukrainian youngster sealed a sensational summer move to Stamford Bridge from Shakhtar Donetsk for £88m.

Despite the huge transfer fees paid for his services, Mudryk failed to live up to his price tag in his debut season in the Premier League for Chelsea.
