Every footballer in the world dreams of winning the prestigious Ballon d'Or award, which rubber stamps their greatness in the sport.

Real Madrid star midfielder Toni Kroos recently said he has no interest in winning the Ballon d'Or and does not see why individual awards like that exist in football.

Kroos's team has produced many Ballon d'Or winners over the years. In fact, the current holder of the award was a Real Madrid player.

Karim Benzema, Luka Modric, Cristiano Ronaldo, Alfredo di Stefano, Luis Figo, Ronaldo Nazario and others have won the award as Real Madrid players.

The award has played a key part in the heated GOAT debate between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi has seven, while his long-time rival has five.

The battle between the two in the last few years have made the award more important for fans and players.

Kroos disagrees with individual awards

Speaking on his podcast, Kroos was categorical when speaking about individual awards in football. He said no one wins alone in the sport.

“My opinion is that individual awards are unnecessary in a team sport. I’ve always said that & I stand by that. No single player would have won anything on their own.
“It is prestigious, but not important. That’s a big difference. My idea is simply that I don’t find it important, or not as important as other players. No single player would have won anything on their own,” via GOAL.

Kroos has been a key player for every team he's played for. Helped Real Madrid win four Champions Leagues and Germany win the 2014 World Cup, per Transfermarkt.

Kroos blasts Veiga

Sports Brief earlier reported on Kroos terming Gabri Veiga's move to Al-Ahli as "embarrassing".

Veiga had a breakout 2022/23 season, which attracted some top clubs in Europe, like Napoli and some in England. However, Al-Ahli won the race for his signature.

The 21-year-old is set to become the latest star from a European club to join Al-Ahli. This summer alone, they have signed Edouard Mendy, Riyad Mahrez, Roger Ibanez, Allan Saint-Maximin, Franck Kessie, and Merih Derimal.
