  • Mexico have beaten Ghana in an international friendly
  • Hirving Lozano and Uriel Antuna's second-half goals were enough for El Tri
  • The Black Stars will face USA in three days time in another friendly encounter

Second-half goals from Hirving Lozano and Uriel Antuna inflicted Chris Hughton his first defeat as Ghana coach after Mexico strolled to a 2-0 victory against the Black Stars in an international friendly in the United States.

Following a barren first-half, the North Americans had an explosive start to the second-half after Lozano broke the deadlock following a quick set-piece by Mexico.

Substitute Antuna doubled the lead with 19 minutes remaining after a mistake from Nicholas Opoku led to a quick break by El Tri.

The Black Stars, who were unbeaten since Hughton took over in February, started the first-half the better side with Antoine Sememyo creating the first opportunity after laying a pass in the box but there was no Ghanaian player to connect.

Three minutes later, Thomas Partey almost gave Ghana the lead after meeting a fine corner kick from Joseph Paintsil, but his header went inches wide.

Ghana were forced into an early change after defender Joseph Aidoo suffered an injury halfway into the first-half, with Alidu Seidu replacing the Celta Vigo centre-back.

Mexico had their first real chance after Raul Jimenez sent in a cross which was cleared by Opoku only to find Edson Alvarez at the edge of the box but his effort did not trouble goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi as both teams went into the break without scoring.

However, after the break, the Mexicans looked sharper and threatened just three minutes into the second-half through Sanchez.

Mexico then took advantage of a set-piece close to Ghana's box after Alvarez quickly laid the ball to Lozano on the left, who made no mistake by firing the ball past Ati Zigi in the 57th minute.

Jordan Ayew replaced Kingsley Schindler with twenty minutes remaining as the Black Stars began to lift their game, but the Africans were dealt a huge blow a minute later after Opoku's pass was intercepted before Huerta found Antuna who finished off a brilliant move by the Mexicans.

Ati Zigi made a fine save to deny Huerta from adding to Mexico's tally in the final minute.

The Black Stars will next face the United States while Mexico engage Germany.
