  • Kylian Mbappe has been on a four-game goal drought
  • The France captain raced to a double against Ronald Koeman's Netherlands
  • Mbappe's brace on the night ensured he surpassed a France goal record

France's star forward, Kylian Mbappe, put an end to his longest goal drought in five years with a brace against Ronald Koeman's Netherlands side.

The 24-year-old French captain wasted no time in giving his team the lead with a sublime goal in the seventh minute with an impressive strike off a pass from Olympique Marseille fullback Jonathan Clauss.

According to reports from TNT Sports, Mbappe quickly followed up with another brilliant goal from the edge of the box in the 53rd minute.

The PSG forward, whose efforts were enough to ensure Didier Deschamps' side would secure a 2-1 victory, hence maintaining their unblemished record, also hit a personal milestone himself.

Mbappe hits new milestone

The 24-year-old who featured for the duration of the encounter, surpassed Michel Platini's record to become the fourth all-time top scorer in the history of Les Bleus, according to a report from B/R Football.

With 42 goals in 72 appearances, the 2018 FIFA World Cup golden boy now trails only Olivier Giroud (54), Thierry Henry (51), and Antoine Griezmann (44) in his pursuit of becoming France's all-time leading goalscorer.

On the same night, Mbappe also became the first player since Marcel Desailly in 1999 to win each of his first six matches as the France National Team captain from kick-off.

The former Monaco star would fancy usurping Griezmann in the Le Bleus' next clash in an international friendly against Steve Clarke's highflying Scotland side.

Vinicius expresses Mbappe desire

Sports Brief in a previous report stated Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has added fuel to the fire surrounding Kylian Mbappe's future, which is still unclear despite deciding to stay at Paris Saint-Germain.

The French superstar was locked in a protracted contract stand-off with the club and insisted he sign a new deal this summer.

Speaking to France Football via Get Football, the Real Madrid superstar expressed his desire to play alongside the PSG star.

"Everyone wants to play with Kylian (Mbappé) here. I hope it happens one day, he is one of the best players, perhaps the best."
