FootballLuka Modric Discusses Status at Real Madrid Amid Diminished Playing Time
- Luka Modric has seen his game time reduced drastically since the start of the new season
- Reports of the Croatian midfielder leaving Real Madrid in the winter window have emerged
- The 38-year-old Ballon d'Or winner has cleared the air about his future with Los Blancos
The significantly reduced minutes provided to Luka Modric since the start of the new La Liga season have raised eyebrows among the fans of Real Madrid.
Modric, who has only managed to accumulate 388 minutes out of 990 this season, has been the subject of transfer rumours, particularly concerning a potential move in January.
A recent report by 90min included comments from Italian manager, Carlo Ancelotti, who was asked about Modric's importance to the team despite his limited role.
The Real Madrid manager emphasised the midfielder's significance within the squad and dismissed the idea of a January transfer for the veteran player.
However, following Croatia's 1-0 defeat to Turkey in the UEFA Euro qualifiers, the midfielder took a moment to speak about his immediate future with the club.
Modric speaks on his Real Madrid future
When questioned about his reduced playing time, Modric stated as quoted by Madrid Xtra:
"Well, I wouldn't want to speculate at this point. There's still plenty of time until winter and the end of the year. As I've mentioned many times, at my age, you can't plan too far ahead. You have to take it one day at a time, from game to game, and see what the future holds."
These comments from the veteran echoed his previous sentiments about his ability to play every three days and handle the demands of the modern football calendar.
While some may expect his role to become more prominent as the season progresses, it increasingly seems like this could be Modric's final year at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Sports Brief previously reported on the veteran being displeased with his current status at Real Madrid as he seeks to play more games after being sidelined almost all season.
Modric has been outshone by Jude Bellingham, who has become the latest star for Los Blancos since his major summer arrival from Bundesliga giants, Borussia Dortmund.
The 38-year-old midfielder has claimed he is physically well and confessed he hates sitting on the bench, but also respects Ancelotti's decision not to involve him very often.
