Former Nigerian international Mikel Obi was in Abidjan, the capital of Ivory Coast, for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations draw.
Shortly before the event proper, the ex-Chelsea star, who was in the company of his former teammate Didier Drogba, met with the First Lady of the country, Mrs Dominique Ouattara.
Ivorian legend Yaya Toure was also on hand to welcome Mrs Ouattara to the venue of the event alongside other CAF officials.
While music icon Akon was named as the host of the event, Mikel was named among the assistants for the final draw.
He was joined by his former Chelsea teammate, Didier Drogba, Senegal Striker, Sadio Mane and Morocco defender, Achraf Hakimi, Daily Post reports.
Mikel met with Mrs Ouattara on the sidelines as they exchanged pleasantries. He shared a clip of the special moment on his Instagram handle with the caption:
“It is indeed an honour to be welcomed by The First Lady of Ivory Coast Mrs Dominique Ouattara.”
Dominique Claudine Ouattara nee Nouvian is the current First Lady of Ivory Coast, married to President Alassane Ouattara.
Mrs Ouattara has conducted several humanitarian missions in her home country, in relation to mother and child care.
In 2011, she was appointed head of the National Oversight Committee of Actions Against Child Trafficking, Exploitation and Labour.
Nigeria drawn against Ivory Coast
Sports Brief earlier reported that the Super Eagles of Nigeria have been drawn against host Ivory Coast for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations, which starts in January.
