Jerome Opoku has received his maiden Black Stars invite after defenders Tariq Lamptey, Alexander Djiku, and Daniel Amartey dropped out of the friendlies against Mexico and the United States.

The lanky right-back was joined by Stephan Ambrosius and Kingsley Schindler as the latest call-ups for the two matches.

Opoku, who scored his debut goal for Istanbul Basaksehir over the weekend, was born in England to Ghanaian parents.

The 24-year-old will travel to Charlotte to join the rest of the Black Stars team as they prepare for the game against Mexico on Saturday, as reported by the official website of the Ghanaian FA.

Meanwhile, Ambrosius and Schindler have arrived in camp and trained with the team on Tuesday.

The Black Stars will engage the United States three days after the Mexico game as part of preparations for next month's World Cup qualifiers.

The friendlies will also serve as preparatory games for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast next year.

The four-time African champions will find out their opponents for the group stage of AFCON in a draw on Thursday, as reported by CAFonline.com.

Hughton names squad for USA, Mexico games

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Black Stars captain, Andre Ayew has been dropped by Ghana national team coach Chris Hughton as the manager released his squad for the international friendlies against the United States and Mexico.

Ayew is currently unattached after he left English Premier League side Nottingham Forest at the end of last season, forcing the ex-Brighton manager to omit him from the team.

Ghana to face USA in international friendly

The Black Stars of Ghana will engage the United States of America in an international friendly on October 17, 2023, in Nashville, Tennessee.

The four-time African champions will use the match as a preparatory game for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars have played the United States at several international competitions, including three World Cup meetings.
