- The Argentine forward has opened up on working with the Spanish boss
Julian Alvarez is loving life under Pep Guardiola and has opened up on what it is like to play for the football-addict Manchester City boss a year into their time together.
Alvarez joined City in January 2022 from River Plate but spent the rest of the season on loan before joining the team in the summer, the same time as Erling Haaland, who joined from Borussia Dortmund.
He was an integral part of the treble-winning squad in his first season, even though he played second fiddle to Haaland for most of the campaign but stepped up when called upon.
Kevin De Bruyne's injury has afforded him more playing time this season, and he has 10 goal contributions in 13 games playing behind the striker as a number 10.
Alvarez explains working with Guardiola
Pep Guardiola is regarded as one of the best managers in the world and has been praised for building some of the best attacking squads of the past decades.
In an interview with ESPN, Alvarez explained how Guardiola functions and what it is like playing for him.
"It's a privilege to be coached by Pep. I believe he's thinking about football all day and on a daily basis, he is of course at this level very demanding and we as players know that the expectations are high, but he also reminds us," he said.
"He [Guardiola] makes it harder because he knows what we have to give. For managing the team, how he reads the games, the rivals, and the tools he gives you for when you have to get on the pitch to play are what makes Pep stand out."
The 23-year-old came off the bench to help City overcome RB Leipzig last night, scoring a brilliant goal from the edge of the box and assisting Jeremy Doku for the third goal. As per Mundo Albiceleste, Guardiola was in awe of the Argentina striker for his performance off the bench.
