Bayer Leverkusen winger, Nathan Tella has confirmed that he is hoping for a chance to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria despite being born in the United Kingdom.
The former Southampton winger was born in Lambeth, South London, England, to Nigerian parents.
The 24-year-old didn't feature for any of the England national youth team set-ups, and he is still eligible to play for Nigeria as things stand.
In an interview with Bild, as per Complete Sports, the former Burnley winger claimed that he is looking for the chance to play for the Super Eagles.
"I’ve always said for the last three or four years that Nigeria is a big part of my life – even though I’ve been an ‘England boy’ from London all my life," he said.
Tella confirmed that he already told his parents and friends that he would accept an invitation to play for Nigeria if it came.
"If I got the chance to play for Nigeria, I would be more than happy and accept it. I’ve already told my parents and friends that I would do that," he continued.
Furthermore, the Bayer Leverkusen star is aware of how hard it is to get invited to the Nigeria national team.
“You’re not just nominated like that, you have to work for it and earn it. I want to prove myself here if I get the chance to play," he added.
