FootballThiago Silva Aims Subtle Dig at VAR With Hilarious Remark After Carlos Vinicius’ Challenge
- Thiago Silva was left incensed after Fulham striker Carlos Vinicius smacked him on the head
- The striker escaped punishment with the Video Assistant Referee recommending no action be taken
- Chelsea beat Fulham 2-0 to hand Mauricio Pochettino his second Premier League victory
In a week that has seen the Video Assistant Referee hit a new low, Thiago Silva has added to the fire and condemnation with a hilarious remark.
Silva was part of the Chelsea squad that beat Fulham 2-0 at Craven Cottage on Monday night to record their first away win of the season.
Quickfire goals from Mykhailo Mudryk and Armando Broja gave Mauricio Pochettino's side a much-needed boost after they collected only five points from their opening six games.
The Blues managed to control the rest of the game, with goalkeeper Robert Sanchez coming to their rescue once in a while.
There was, however, a contentious moment in the second half when Carlos Vinicius appeared to whack Silva on the back of his head. The veteran Brazilian defender went down, holding his head as Vinicius shoved him in an attempt to get him off the ball.
What Silva said about the challenge
Centre-referee, Tim Robinson appeared to brandish a yellow card to the Fulham striker, but the official records of the Premier League indicate that the card was not given.
Silva was visibly furious with the decision and took to his Instagram stories to complain.
"This is not even allowed in the UFC. But it's cool."
The former Paris Saint-Germain defender is the oldest player in the Premier League this season. He has remained a consistent performer at the back despite Chelsea's wobbles in recent months.
Every VAR apology so far
When the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) was introduced to the English Premier League in 2019, many thought that the era of players getting away with wrong decisions or referees making incorrect decisions was behind us.
