David de Gea exhibited some class by sharing a heartfelt message to his former teammate Lisandro Martinez amid the defender’s injury woes.
Martinez, a World Cup winner with Argentina, is set to be out for months after undergoing a second surgery to correct his metatarsal.
The foot issue first came up during the Europa League quarter-final against Sevilla and he was effectively ruled out for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.
He underwent an operation and made a comeback during pre-season, but the problem recurred once again in September when Manchester United came up against Arsenal.
Martinez’s absence is a huge blow to his club, who, according to Erik ten Hag, have not had their best XI all season because of the persistent injury setbacks.
Among the people who sympathized with Martinez was De Gea, who sent well wishes to the defender on Instagram, according to Manchester Evening News.
In his post, De Gea shared an image of himself and Martinez along with the caption: “Stay strong, warrior”.
Man United’s growing injury list
In terms of injuries, it does not get any easier for Ten Hag, who now has some big names in the doctor’s office.
At the back, the Red Devils are without Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Sergio Reguilon, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, as per Premierinjuries.com.
Youngster Kobbie Mainoo only recently got involved in first team training for the first time this season, while Amad Diallo is still recovering from an injury sustained in pre-season.
