FootballJose Mourinho: Roma Boss Aims Dig at Chelsea, Tuchel and Rashford Over Lukaku’s Goal Scoring
- Romelu Lukaku scored as Roma returned to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Frosinone
- The Belgian scored his fourth goal in five games for Jose Mourinho's side
- Mourinho is pleased with the striker signed on loan from his former club Chelsea
Jose Mourinho's words about Romelu Lukaku appear to have aimed a dig at his former club, Chelsea, and their former manager, who signed the Belgian to the English club.
Lukaku is enjoying a fine start to life at AS Roma after joining the capital city club on loan from Chelsea, having fallen out with the club and spent last season on loan at Inter Milan.
He has four goals in five games for Roma - three in the league and one in the Europa League, where he extended his goal-scoring streak in the competition to 12 games.
The Giallorossi, however, have started the league season poorly, with pressure building on Mourinho to turn things around to dispel claims of a third-season collapse over him.
Mourinho aims dig at Tuchel and Chelsea
Lukaku opened the scoring for Roma against Frosinone, controlling a pass from Paulo Dybala before leaving a defender for dead and sending a bullet shot into the net.
Speaking to DAZN after the game, as quoted by Roma Press, the Special One admitted he would be responsible if the striker did not score.
“I thought I would be responsible if Lukaku didn't score. At the very least no one can accuse me of this now. Romelu scores here, in Manchester, at Inter and wherever he goes. Romelu is Romelu, and luckily I don't know how to destroy his qualities,” he said.
According to Transfermarkt, Lukaku has scored 292 club goals in his career, but his driest spell came at Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel, where he scored 15 goals in 59 appearances. Omitting Chelsea was probably a subtle dig at the forward's time in London under Tuchel.

FootballHis comments, "I don't know how to destroy his qualities", also appeared to have aimed a dig at Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, who, according to Goal, said the manager doesn't understand star players because he didn't play in attack.
As reported by Football Italia, Roma have a £37m clause to make Lukaku's deal permanent.
Mourinho calls out Renato Sanches
Sports Brief reported that Mourinho called out Renato Sanches after the Portuguese midfielder left the game in the first half due to injury.
The Special One expressed frustration at his compatriot being at risk of injury every time he stepped on the pitch, a situation that plagued him at former clubs, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.
