Xavi will manage his 100th Barcelona game on Wednesday, October 4. Despite all the challenges he has faced, the 43-year-old has done incredibly well at the club.

He has some way to go to match the achievements of Barcelona's iconic managers, Pep Guardiola and Johan Cruyff, but he's heading there - all things considered.

Barcelona hired their former player as head coach in November 2021 after he left Al-Sadd of Qatar. He replaced Ronald Koeman, who was in charge of the team for 14 months.

Xavi spent 17 years in the La Blaugrana first team between 1998-2015 and made 767 appearances, winning eight La Liga titles and four UEFA Champions Leagues.

There were serious doubts about his abilities as a manager, although he was successful in Qatar. All those doubts were proven wrong when he led Barcelona to the title last season, their first triumph since 2019.

Xavi vs Pep vs Cruyff after 100 games

Xavi's first 100 games as Barca boss

Xavi's first match in charge of Barcelona was a 109 win over rivals, Espanyol on November 20, 2021. Since then, he has won 63 games, drawn 17 and lost 19, putting his win percentage just over 63%.

His team scored 197 goals and conceded 97, averaging 2.08 goals per match. He has proven he can go toe to toe with Real Madrid with fewer resources, meaning he could achieve more if given the right resources.

However, that will take a while since Barcelona are in a financial mire.

Guardiola's first 100 games as Barcelona boss

The current Manchester City manager ushered in an era of dominance at Barcelona. He was in charge of the club between 2008 and 2012, winning a total of 14 trophies. The Barca job was his first at the top level and it is mind-boggling to think about his achievements.

In 100 games, he won a staggering 71 games, drawing 19 and losing just 10. He won a sextuple in his first 100 games. His team lifted the La Liga title, Copa del Rey, Spanish Super Cup, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

Guardiola went on to achieve more at Bayern Munich and Manchester City, including last season's historic treble, and is regarded as the greatest manager of all time.

Cruyff's first 100 games as Barca boss

The late Cruyff is an icon in world football. He was incredible in his playing days and transformed Barcelona as the manager. He was the mastermind of the famous La Masia academy that has produced iconic footballers like Xavi and Lionel Messi.

In his first 100 games, he won 60, drew 23, and lost 17. He won 11 trophies as Barcelona boss, including four straight league titles and the club's first European Cup in 1992, per 90min.

The Dutchman greatly influenced Guardiola, who in turn inspired many managers in the world today.

Xavi inks new deal with Barcelona

Sports Brief previously reported on Xavi signing a new deal until 2025, as his current deal with Barcelona was set to expire next summer.

His new contract will run until 2025, as the club is happy with the progress made under the manager since he took charge two years ago.

Xavi will look to improve the club's performances in Europe after they were knocked out of the UCL in the group stage last season.
