Victor Osimhen has spoken for the first time since the tussle involving him and Napoli over a malicious video trolling him was released on the club's official TikTok channel.

Osimhen helped Napoli to their first Italian Serie A title in 33 years last season, scoring 26 league goals, picking up the golden boot and breaking many records.

The champions have not entirely picked up this season after the departure of title-winning manager Luciano Spalletti, replaced by former Al-Nassr boss Rudi Garcia.

As reported by Football Italia, the club turned down an offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal worth €130m for the striker in the summer as they hope to hold on to their prized asset.

Osimhen breaks silence on video saga

The Nigerian striker missed a decisive penalty for Napoli against Bologna, which could have earned the club all three points. A video was released on the club's official TikTok channel mocking the striker.

It has generated widespread outrage, especially from Nigerians on social media, and the player reacted by taking down Napoli-related images on Instagram.

As noted by ESPN, the club released a statement claiming they never intended to offend the player and that the video shouldn't be blown out of proportion.

Osimhen has spoken for the first time about the incident via a statement published on his Instagram story.

"The accusation against the People of Naples are untrue. I have a lot of friends that are Neapolitans and have become part of my family and everyday life," a part of the statement reads.

He has scored in consecutive games against Udinese and Lecce after the incident.

Sports Brief reported on Osimhen's agent threatening Napoli with legal action after the official TikTok published a disparaging video about his client.

Roberto Calenda released a statement on social media condemning their act and making it clear the player reserved every right to take legal action and other necessary steps to protect himself.
