Picking Lionel Messi's greatest-ever goal is a difficult task. The Inter Miami superstar has scored every type of goal in his illustrious career, so picking his best would be like finding the proverbial needle in a haystack.
Recently, his former Barcelona teammate, Thierry Henry chose what he believed was the greatest Lionel Messi goal.
After leading Argentina to World Cup glory last year, by acclamation, Messi became the best footballer of all time, perhaps ending the endless debate pitting him against Cristiano Ronaldo.
He has made a remarkable start in the Major League Soccer (MLS) with Inter Miami after leaving Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
His Barcelona career is iconic. He left the club in 2021, leaving behind an incredible legacy of goals, trophies, and iconic moments. He left the club after winning 45 trophies and over 30 individual awards. One can create an hour-long compilation of Messi's iconic goals.
Henry on Messi's best goal
Henry played with Messi for three seasons at the Camp Nou and knows first-hand what Messi was like on the pitch. Messi scored over 650 goals for Barcelona in over 750 appearances.
The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner has scored all types of goals, from jaw-dropping solo runs to long-range screamers and even headers, despite his height.
However, Henry's choice is a goal that Messi scored in Barcelona's 6-0 thrashing of Malaga on 22nd March 2009.
Xavi opened the scoring before Messi produced magic to double the lead. Henry scored the third while Samuel Eto'o bagged a brace on either side of Dani Alves's strike. Henry described every detail of the goal, per Marca.
"A diagonal ball and he controlled it on his chest, then runs at full speed. First player goes, second player is just behind, if he takes another step and then that player will clear the ball.
Casemiro's stats: How has the Brazilian midfielder transformed Manchester United since joining the team?
Football"But no. If you stuck the ball on your left foot here, how do you go back with that same leg and touch the ball in the air to make sure that the second guy cannot touch it?
"Then, he almost fell, he almost fell and he smashes it and he scores. Top corner. That's not normal."
Messi, Henry, and Barcelona won the treble that season. The Frenchman won seven trophies at the club and saw a young Messi torment defences in Spain and in Europe.

Sports Brief also reported that in a controversial interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo hailed Messi and Zinedine Zidane as two of the greatest he had ever witnessed.
