  • Al-Nassr continued their gentle ascension on the Saudi League table thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo's brace
  • Disappointedly, Neymar's full debut for Al-Hilal resulted in a 1-1 draw with Damac
  • At the other end of the table, Al Hazem, Al Riyadh and Al Raed occupy the relegation spots

Cristiano Ronaldo guided Al-Nassr to a steady climb in the league standings after their victory over Al-Ahli.

Meanwhile, defending champions Al-Ittihad fought hard for a 2-1 win against Al Fateh, dethroning Al-Hilal at the top of the table.

Sports Brief takes a look at the results from match day seven as the race for the Saudi League crown continues unabatedly.

Results from game seven

Defending champions, Al-Ittihad reclaimed the top position from the 18-time champions, Al-Hilal, following their hard-fought victory against Al Fateh at the Prince Abdullah al-Faisal Stadium, AFC reports.

The Jeddah-based club bounced back from a goal deficit to secure a crucial win, with goals from Romarinho and N'Golo Kante, who scored his first in the Saudi Pro League, delivering a well-deserved triumph for Nuno Espirito Santo's team.

In a surprising turn of events in Abha, Al-Hilal faced a setback as the lower-ranked Damac held their own against Jorge Jesus' star-studded squad featuring Neymar Junior.

According to Arab News, in Neymar's full debut for the Blue Waves, he failed to make a significant impact on the game.

The match ended in a draw after Malcolm's early goal was cancelled out by Nicole Stanciu, resulting in both teams sharing the spoils.

Al Taawon, who have established themselves as dark horses in the Saudi top flight, continued their impressive start to the season with a 2-1 victory against Al Raed, who find themselves in a relegation battle after just seven games.

On the other hand, Steven Gerrard's Al-Ettifaq extended their winning streak with a thrilling 7-goal encounter against Al Taee.

Former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum and Moussa Dembele both scored twice as Ettifaq narrowly defeated Al Taee, who witnessed their summer signing Bernard Mensah scoring a hat-trick.

In a showdown between title contenders, Al-Nassr and Al-Ahli provided fans with a classic match at the Al-Awwal Park. Al-Nassr emerged victorious, thanks to brace each from star forwards Cristiano Ronaldo and Anderson Talisca.

How the SPL table looks

A change in positions occurred between Al-Ittihad and Al-Hilal, with the defending champions regaining the top spot through a comeback victory, while Al-Hilal slipped down after a draw with Damac.

Al Taawon closely trails the leading duo in third place, accumulating 16 points from seven games. Similarly, Steven Gerrard's team, at par on points with Taawon, continue to make progress and narrow the gap on the top two.

In fifth place is Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr, steadily ascending the league standings after a shaky start to the campaign, amassing 15 points thus far.

Invariably, Al-Ahli's 4-3 defeat to the Knights of Najd saw the Jeddah-based club drop out of the top five for the first time this season.

Meanwhile, at the lower end of the league table, there have been minimal changes. Al Hazem remains firmly rooted at the bottom, failing to secure a win in all seven matches played.

Just above Hazem are Al Riyadh, Al Raed, Al Akhdoud, and Damac, who are separated by goal difference but share the same point tally of 4.

Ronaldo, top stars illuminate Saudi League

In a related publication, Sports Brief reported that Cristiano Ronaldo continues to dominate headlines for all the right reasons. The 38-year-old netted a sensational brace, leading his side to a 4-3 victory in a spectacular match at Al-Awwal Park.

On the flip side, Neymar failed to make a significant impact compared to his cameo appearance at Al Riyadh, where he provided an assist in Al-Hilal's 6-1 victory.
