Chelsea have hit a new low as Mauricio Pochettino hinted at the key issue facing the Blues so far this season.
The London club’s troubles in the league continued on Sunday, September 24 as they fell to a shock 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa.
In a game that could have gone either way, the only goal came from Ollie Watkins deep in the second half as the English striker struck a low shot past Robert Sanchez from a tight angle.
The Blues will feel they are painfully unlucky, as they had chances to find the back of the net, but failed to do so on several occasions on Sunday afternoon.
Axel Disasi thought he had given his side the lead, but his effort was painfully ruled out for offside, albeit through very fine margins.
Malo Gusto’s red card in the 58th minute proved to be the turning point in the game, as the French wing back was sent off for a poorly-timed tackle on Lucas Digne.
Chelsea’s poor stats and Pochettino’s take
As the full time whistle rang at Stamford Bridge, so did boos from the home crowd who had to endured yet another lowly defeat.
What’s worse for the fans, arguably, is their team’s lack of potency in front of goal as the Blues have now failed to score in their last three league games, as cited on ESPN.
Chelsea, despite over 1 billion spent in revamping their squad, appear to still be struggling with firepower up front, and manager Mauricio Pochettino attempted to make sense of their current predicament.

FootballWith one win in their opening six league games, Pochettino was asked why his side found it difficult to find the net.
Asked what his side needed to do to start scoring goals, he said as per Football London:
“Work, trust in them, confidence. We have the squad we have, we need try to build the confidence and give them all of the support they need because they need to perform on the pitch. The performance is good, not excellent but we are missing goals.”
“I start tomorrow again to prepare the game for Wednesday and hope we can score Wednesday.”
Chelsea’s next game is against Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday, September 27 in the EFL Cup.
