  • Chelsea fans were left saying the same thing after watching highlights of their legends’ game on Saturday
  • The Chelsea legends emerged 4-0 winners over Bayern Munich legends
  • Michael Essien, John Terry and John Obi Mikel were among the names featured in the game

Football fans joked that the Chelsea legends could easily integrate into the current Blues’ team after watching the game against Bayern Munich legends on Saturday, September 9.

The Blues fielded a fairly strong line up for the game as the likes of Gary Cahill, John Terry and Tiago all featured.

Legendary Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien also made the cut in a game aimed at paying tribute to the late striker Gianluca Vialli, who passed away earlier this year.

How the game went

The game, which took place at Stamford Bridge, got off to a flying start as Michael Essien thrilled fans with the opening goal; a header from Ramires’ cross, as cited on ChelseaFC.com.

John Terry also found the net on his return to Stamford Bridge as he brilliantly danced past a frail Bayern defence in what was some brilliant link-up play with Florent Malouda in the 26th minute.

In the second half, it was Terry’s defensive partner Gary Cahill’s turn to get in on the action as the defender made a run into the box after playing a one-two with Zola.

Credit for the third goal also has to go to the legendary Claude Makelele, who came off the bench to win the ball in the middle of the park, as he has done on many occasions.

The best of the bunch came from Tiago, who ran onto a pass from Essien before delicately chipping the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 4-0.

Chelsea fans react

Despite all the big names in the Chelsea squad being well past their prime, they proved to be the perfect interpretation of the saying, “Class is permanent”.

And football fans who watched the game and its highlights were quick to heap praise on the legends, joking that they could easily replace the current Chelsea side’s midfield.

"So sad to see Chelsea fans enjoying 40 plus years ex-footballer match than those 20’s players we have now this shows how Chelsea has fallen ."

"Such calm play. Our current players be running for no reason whenever they get the ball without even thinking."

How are Chelsea faring this season?

Under new manager Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea are still struggling in the Premier League, if their first four results are anything to go by.

After a 1-1 draw against Liverpool in their first game of the campaign, the Blues followed it up with a 3-1 defeat to West Ham, before claiming a first win against Luton Town.

They then survived a scare against AFC Wimbledon in the EFL Cup to win 2-1, before suffering a shock 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, September 2 in their last game before the international break.

Paul Scholes ends Gerrard debate

Sports Brief also reported on Paul Scholes’ answer on who he believes was better between himself and Steven Gerrard.

The midfield duo dominated the Premier League during their illustrious careers with Liverpool and Manchester United.

Speaking during an interview on Rio Ferdinand's FIVE YouTube Channel, the Man United icon explained that it was difficult to decide which player was better.
