Robert Lewandowski made history on Tuesday, becoming the third player to score 100 goals in UEFA competitions.

He accomplished the feat in style, volleying Barcelona’s second goal in their 5-0 win over Royal Antwerp.

The Polish veteran entered a very exclusive club with that goal, joining football icons Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo on that list.

Sports Brief examines how the three football greats reached the century mark in goals scored in Europe.

Cristiano Ronaldo (145 goals)

Per UEFA, Ronaldo holds the record for most goals scored in European club competitions with 145. All but five of those goals came in the UEFA Champions League, which he won five times in his illustrious career.

He won the Champions League in 2008 with Manchester United. The Portuguese star scored 21 goals in 59 appearances for the Red Devils in Europe.

He enjoyed more European success with Real Madrid, capturing the Champions League title in 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2018. Ronaldo scored 105 goals in 101 Champions League appearances for the Spanish giants.

He moved to Juventus and continued banging in the goals in Europe. He scored 14 goals in 23 Champions League appearances for the Italian powerhouse.

Lionel Messi (132 goals)

Messi is second on the list with 132 goals scored in UEFA club competitions. All but three of those goals came in the UEFA Champions League, which he won three times in his stellar career.

He captured the Champions League title with Barcelona in 2009, 2011, and 2015. The Argentine star scored 120 goals in 149 appearances for the Catalan giants in Europe.

He added to his goal tally in Europe when he moved to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021. Messi scored nine goals in 14 appearances for PSG in the Champions League.

Robert Lewandowski (100 goals)

Lewandowski joined the elite club on Tuesday after scoring a terrific volley goal in the win over Royal Antwerp.

92 of the Polish star's 100 European goals came in the Champions League, which he achieved in just 112 appearances. He netted the majority of those during his stint with Bayern Munich, scoring 69 goals for them in Europe.

Lewandowski has also scored twice in the Europa League, thrice in the UEFA Cup, twice in Europa League qualifiers, and once in UEFA Cup qualifiers, per Sport.es.

Felix stars in win over Antwerp
