  • Harry Maguire has been the subject of ridicule in recent months
  • The Man United centre-back has found game-time hard to come by at Old Trafford
  • Harry Kane has launched a passionate defence of the Englishman ahead of Bayern's UCL clash vs. United

Embattled Manchester United defender, Harry Maguire has earned praise from Harry Kane, with the Bayern Munich ace hailing him as 'one of the best' defenders.

Maguire has been under intense scrutiny since he joined the Red Devils two years ago for a then-record transfer fee from Leicester City.

The England international has hardly caught a break, with fans and pundits subjecting him to ridicule and unending criticism.

Recently, the centre-back found himself on the receiving end of criticism after he scored an own goal while on international duty with England.

Metro UK reports that a tirade of horrific abuse directed at him saw The Three Lions boss, Gareth Southgate, launch an impassioned defence of his player.

Kane showers Maguire with praise

Kane is the latest high-profile football figure to publicly show support for the former United skipper.

Speaking ahead of Bayern's Champions League meeting with the Red Devils, the ex-Tottenham striker claimed that Maguire is ‘one of England’s best-ever defenders.'

"I think H [Maguire] has come under some unnecessary scrutiny," the Bayern striker said.
"He has probably been scapegoated a bit. He is a really good friend of mine, a great guy and a really hard working professional.
"He has been one of England’s best defenders over recent times and in England’s history," he added.

Maguire is not part of United's squad that will face Bayern on Wednesday night, having been dropped after he picked up an injury, per Goal.

Brighton mock Onana

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Brighton are seemingly still basking in pride after they hammered Manchester United 3-1 at Old Trafford.

As has been the case for the better part of the start of the new season, Andre Onana once again found himself on the receiving end of criticism after he shipped in three goals during the tie.

Rival fans were quick to take to social media to make fun of the Cameroonian, who has struggled to hit the ground running since his summer arrival.

Brighton jumped on the bandwagon on Monday, a day after they beat United, with the Seagulls taking to social media to mock the former Inter Milan keeper.
