  • Veteran goalkeeper David De Gea is reportedly close to finding a new club
  • The 32-year-old has been without a club since leaving Manchester United
  • De Gea spent 12 seasons in England and became a free agent this season

Manchester United legend, David De Gea has been without a club since leaving the Red Devils after 12 seasons but he could be on track for a return to action.

La Liga side, Real Betis are reportedly eyeing the signature of the former Premier League winner. The 32-year-old reportedly snubbed offers from Saudi Arabia in the summer transfer window.

De Gea was also linked with moves to Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, and Real Madrid but those clubs opted to sign other goalkeepers instead.

Many consider the Spaniard's qualities obsolete in the modern game, which has resulted in clubs choosing keepers who fit the modern style.

The Spaniard played 12 seasons at Man United and made 545 appearances, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, and the Europa League, per Transfermarkt.

Real Betis eyeing De Gea

Spanish outlet, Fichajes reported that Real Betis are now leading the race for De Gea's signature but Valencia are also keen on signing the veteran goalkeeper.

The outlet also reported the La Liga side were looking to sign Claudio Bravo but a deal never materialised.

De Gea would bring priceless experience to Real Betis, who conceded five goals against Barcelona in their latest match. Their starting keeper, Rui Silva suffered an injury and had to be withdrawn at half-time.

Therefore, if he ends up signing for Manuel Pellegrini's side, he will surely go straight into the starting eleven. Betis have made an indifferent start to the season, picking up seven points from their first five games.

The Spanish side kick off their Europa League campaign this week with an away clash against Rangers.

Why De Gea rejected Inter Milan

Sports Brief also reported on why De Gea rejected Inter Milan after the Nerazzurri approached him to replace Onana in what would have been a transfer 'domino effect'.

The Spaniard was reportedly not keen on moving to Italy and it was also reported he was offered a salary of €5million per season, short of what the goalkeeper sought.
