Ghanaian champions, Medeama SC are on course to claiming a historic place at the group stage of the CAF Champions League after securing a first-leg victory over Guinean giants, AC Horoya.

Second-half goals from Nana Kofi Babil, Nurudeen Abdulai and Kofi Asmah ensured the Mauve and Yellow cruised to a 3-1 win at the Cape Coast stadium.

Medeama will travel to Conakry for the second-leg next week with the hopes of progressing to the next stage.

Meanwhile, in an enthralling game, both teams failed to find the back of the net in a disciplined first half display, as reported by Ghanasoccernet.

However, the game burst to life just three minutes into the second half after winger Kofi Babil gave Medeama a deserving lead.

Abdulai doubled the lead for the Ghanaian side moments later after rising high to head home from a brilliant cross.

Asmah extended the advantage for Medeama with 20 minutes remaining, but the visitors pulled one back through Mohammed Lamine Fofana in the 89th minute.

Medeama eliminated Nigerian side Remo Stars in the first round of the competition, as reported by vanguardng.com.

Medeama transfer nine players to Maltese club

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghanaian champions Medeama SC have transferred nine of their players to Maltese topflight side Sirens FC in the summer transfer window.

The players include experienced midfielder and long-serving captain Kwasi Donsu.

The other players also leaving for Malta are Prosper Owusu Boakye, Charles Agyemang, Frank Boateng, Joshua Agyemang, Bismark Asare, Daniel Opoku, Moro Muktar and Akadom Mohammed Hafiz.

Medeama crowned Ghana Premier League champions

Medeama SC have been crowned champions of Ghana after a successful 2022/23 season.

The Tarkwa-based club ended the campaign top of the league with 60 points to win their first-ever Ghana Premier League title.

The Mauve and Yellow needed at least a point in their last game of the season to be champions, and did that in emphatic style, thumping Tamale City at home.
