FootballPochettino Highlights What Chelsea Must Do Right to Turn Their Season Around
- Chelsea have started the 2023/24 Premier League season poorly
- The Blues languish in 12th position with four points from their opening four games
- Mauricio Pochettino has highlighted what is lacking in his team's play
Mauricio Pochettino is impressed with some aspects of Chelsea's game despite their poor start to the season and highlighted a key area they need to improve.
Pochettino took over Chelsea in the summer after the ups and downs of the past year, which saw the club have four managers manage at least a game, including Bruno Saltor, who oversaw the 0-0 draw against Liverpool.
The Blues have been Europe's biggest spenders since Todd Boehly took over as owner, and their spending recently crossed the £1 billion mark, but it has not reflected in their results.
A return of four points from the opening four games is not exactly a semblance of a team with heavy investment, and pressure is already building on the team to deliver.
Pochettino on what Chelsea must do
After weeks of extensive searching, Poch won the race to sit in the Stamford Bridge dugout. He guided the team to an unbeaten pre-season, but finer details have decided games against him in the opening games.
Speaking exclusively to Chelsea TV before the away trip to the Vitality Stadium to face AFC Bournemouth, he highlighted a major necessity to get his team running.
"The most difficult thing is to arrive in the last third and be calm and relaxed and be clinical. We know we need to improve. We needed to be more competitive, and that is to blame ourselves. We are guilty of not competing. We need to be clever in the way we compete." he said.
According to Premier League stats, the London club have missed a league-high 11 big chances this season and have scored five goals - this asserts the manager's words that they could have won all their games if they had taken their chances.

FootballChelsea set for a difficult run
Sports Brief analysed Chelsea's challenging run of games after the international break, and it suggested that their poor start to the season might continue for a longer time.
A return to action away at Bournemouth is followed by Aston Villa, Fulham and Burnley in the league. A league cup tie against Brighton before the next break is in their run of fixtures.
