Super Falcons defender, Ashleigh Plumptre is surprised by the omission of Chiamaka Nnadozie from the FIFA best goalkeeper nominees.

The Nigerian goalkeeper impressed at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup as the Super Falcons reached the last 16 of the tournament.

The Paris FC goalkeeper kept three clean sheets at the tournament, including saving a penalty in the first game against Canada.

However, when the nominees were released on Thursday, Nnadozie could not make the cut with Mackenzie Arnold of Australia, Germany's Ann-Katrin Berger and Catalina Coll of Spain all making the list.

England's Mary Earps, Christiane Endler of Chile, Zecira Musovic of Sweden and Spain's Sandra Panos Garcia-Villamil also made the list.

Plumptre took to social media to reply to the post from FIFA with a dancing GIF of Nnadozie, expressing her shock of the Nigerian's omission.

Nnadozie continued her fine form at club level after saving two penalties to eliminate Arsenal from the Women's UEFA Champions League.

Nigeria were eliminated from the World Cup on penalties by eventual runners-up England.

Ashleigh Plumptre joins Saudi side Al Ittihad

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Nigerian international Ashleigh Plumptre has joined Saudi outfit Al Ittihad, where she will continue with her professional footballing career.

According to a statement by the Saudi outfit, the defender has left English club Leicester City Women on a free transfer.

The 25-year-old made the headlines following her impressive performances for the Super Falcons at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand.

Desire Oparanozie retires from international football

Super Falcons star Desire Oparanozie has decided to retire from professional football a month after the conclusion of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

The striker, who started her football career at Bayelsa Queens in the Nigerian Women's League, decided to call time on her football career at the age of 29.

She was a member of the Nigeria Women's team that featured at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup but failed to register a goal in the competition.
