FootballLionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo? When Kylian Mbappe Changed Tune on GOAT Debate
- Kylian Mbappe was previously put to the task of choosing one of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo
- The debate, which is often referred to as the GOAT debate, has always been a divisive argument in football
- The 2018 World Cup winner played with Messi for two years at Paris Saint-Germain
An old video of Kylian Mbappe explaining his choices in the eternal GOAT debate has resurfaced, sending social media into a meltdown.
Mbappe is considered one of the players who will take over the Messi-Ronaldo throne after close to 15 years of both stars dominating world football.
With both of them now having exited European football, their place will be up for grabs, though many would argue that we will never see a rivalry like that again. The current crop of players is vastly talented, from Mbappe to Erling Haaland, to Vinicius Junior to Jude Bellingham, who can't seem to stop scoring this season.
But even as they settle in and prepare to go for each other's jugular, the debate will always remain on who was better between Messi and Ronaldo.
Mbappe: I was a fan of Cristiano
In the video, which Sports Brief has since established is an old one, Mbappe clearly admits that he was a huge fan of Ronaldo while growing up, but has since changed his perception.
"I was a big fan of Cristiano when I was young. I started to love Messi too because when you are a big fan of Cristiano when you are young, you can't see how Messi is good because you love Cristiano. But I grew up, and I like both now."
The video was made somewhere between 2018 and 2021 when Ronaldo was at Juventus. The French star continues:
"I like Messi and Cristiano because what Messi does at Barcelona is really, really amazing and Cristiano, too, because he played at Manchester United, then Real Madrid and now Juventus. He does an amazing job everywhere he goes."
