Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has made a candid admission regarding Kylian Mbappe amidst the never-ending speculation surrounding the French forward.

Mbappe has long been a target for Real Madrid, with club president Florentino Perez referring to Mbappe previously describing a move to the Bernabeu as a "dream".

A couple of seasons ago, the 24-year-old was on the brink of joining Los Blancos but had a last-minute change of heart, opting to extend his contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

With his current PSG contract set to expire next summer, Mbappe's transfer links to Madrid have resurfaced, though a deal didn't materialize before the recent transfer window closed.

According to GOAL, Real Madrid reportedly plans to reach a pre-contract agreement with the 2018 World Cup winner in January, paving the way for a free transfer next summer.

SPORT also suggests that the Spanish club has earmarked a substantial £200 million ($250 million) to cover his wages and signing-on fee.

Notably, Carvajal believes that this move should have happened earlier, especially given how PSG excluded him from their pre-season plans.

“I thought he was coming," he told Relevo as quoted by Football Tweet.
"When he was dropped from PSG's Japan tour, we thought his signing was close. We asked the French if he (Kylian) said something to them, and they answered, "No, no"."

In the interim, Mbappe has been seamlessly reintegrated into PSG's first-team lineup and has made an instant impact, scoring five goals in only three Ligue 1 matches.

Mbappe's possible pre-contract arrangement

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Real Madrid remains determined in their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe and is prepared to take an additional step to secure the 24-year-old's services before the upcoming summer.

The French forward has been extensively linked with Los Blancos, and Florentino Perez, an ardent admirer of his talents, is now poised to establish a pre-contract arrangement with the Paris Saint-Germain star.

While Mbappe has thus far resisted PSG's attempts to extend his contract, Real Madrid is resolute this time and will insist on a written agreement, having been disappointed by the player's decision last summer.
