Former Liverpool winger, Sadio Mane has revealed why he joined Portuguese veteran, Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League.

Mane was linked with moves to several top sides in Europe but ultimately opened for a switch to Saudi Arabia.

Despite struggling in the German top flight due to injury, loss of form, and a spat with teammate, Leroy Sane, the Senegalese star was still in high demand.

According to a report by ESPN via Sportskeeda, the 31-year-old has claimed his family played a huge role in his decision to move to the Saudi Pro League.

"My family encouraged me to come to Saudi Arabia, especially since it is a Muslim country. My mother was very happy and insisted that I chose Al-Nassr," he said.

While Mane's move to Al-Nassr came as a surprise to many, his journey so far with the Knights of Najd has yielded a good return as he has formed a dynamic duo with Ronaldo on the attacking line.

The former Bayern Munich player has so far scored five goals in six games across all competitions and helped the team claim the Arab Club Champions Cup earlier this year.

Mane 'shoves' Ronaldo for 'acting like coach'

Sports Brief previously reported on the camaraderie between Mane and Ronaldo which was evident during the recent game between Al-Nassr and Al-Shabab.

Both players received a well-deserved rest from coach, Luis Castro, with the Senegalese substituted in the 81st minute and the Portuguese in the 86th minute.

During their time on the bench, the 31-year-old and his captain enjoyed a light-hearted moment when Ronaldo was seen giving instructions to the team on the pitch.
