Paul Pogba has revealed was close to quitting football at one point and has now opened up on what he was going through at that time and how it affected his thinking.

The Frenchman rejoined Juventus as a free agent last summer after six years at Manchester United but has yet to make an impact due to injuries, which limited his game time to 172 minutes in his first season.

Pogba's second season in Turin has not started brightly either, as he is currently out injured.

Pogba's time on the sidelines also resulted in him missing call-up for Les Bleus during the September international break.

The Old Lady are said to expect the midfielder back after the break as he continues to pursue full fitness once again, but it was a personal matter that affected him the most.

When Pogba almost quit football

As reported by ESPN, the former Man United midfielder's brother - Matthias - was detained with four others in connection to an organised extortion ring.

Speaking in an interview with Al Jazeera, Pogba revealed the incident had affected his mentality.

"Money changes people; it can destroy a family and create a war. Sometimes I thought: ‘I don’t want money anymore, I don’t want to play football anymore. I want to be with normal people so they will love me for who I am, not for the fame or the money.’ Sometimes it’s hard," he said.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner remains defiant about turning his second Juventus spell around and keeping his critics quiet.

"I want to make them eat their words, I want to show them that I’m not weak. They can speak badly of me, but I won’t give up, never," he said.

Sports Brief also reported on Pogba destroying teammate Joseph Nonge with his brilliant skills during training, then sharing the clip on Instagram and also tagging the 18-year-old.

The piece of football artistry he displayed have hinted he is close to returning from injury. On his day, the Frenchman is one of the world's most technically gifted midfielders.
