FootballChelsea Legend John Obi Mikel Insists New Look Blues 'Need Time' Amid Early Struggles This Season
- John Obi Mikel has hilariously joked Chelsea needed to 'bring back' their veteran midfielders
- The Blues have had a torrid start to the new season with only one win after four games so far
- Mikel believes Chelsea is still in a transitional period and insisted the team still needed time
John Obi-Mikel had a hilarious answer when asked what he has been up to since his retirement from football.
The former Super Falcons midfielder, now aged 36, was available for the Chelsea Legends match against Bayern Munich on September 9.
Chelsea Legends, which had a very strong line-up on the day, emerged 4-0 victors in a game meant to pay tribute to the late striker, Gianluca Vialli, who passed away earlier this year.
Mikel was among the legends who spoke to the media after the game and he was asked about the club’s woes since the Todd Boehly consortium took over.
"They need to bring us back - I'm joking,” he started as per Hayters TV.
The Nigerian believes the Blues will be fine and need time as the club is currently going through a major transition.
"There are a lot of good, fantastic young players. We need to give them time; we need to make sure they get time to work on the training ground and start to gel together as a team," he added.
Mikel was then asked what he has been up to since calling it quits on his football career and the midfielder hilariously answered:
"Me? Just chilling drinking beers."
The Nigerian joined Chelsea in 2006 from Norwegian side, Lyn and was part of a golden era for the club.
As cited by Transfermarkt, Mikel won two Premier League titles, three FA Cups, a League Cup, the UEFA Champions League, and the Europa League during his time with the Blues before leaving for China in 2017.

Sports Brief also reported on how the Chelsea versus Bayern Munich legends' match went as the Blues emerged with a resounding victory at Stamford Bridge.
The game got off to a flying start as Michael Essien scored an impressive header from Ramires’ cross, with John Terry also scoring for the Blues on his return.
In the second half, it was Terry’s defensive partner, Gary Cahill’s turn to get in on the action as he made a run into the box after a one-two with Gianfranco Zola.
