According to Metro UK, the Gunners offered Gundogan a two-year contract and were among the leading contenders to sign the German.

However, the 32-year-old snubbed the transfer offer, forcing the north Londoners to train their eyes on other targets.

Gundogan went on to complete a summer move to Spain with La Liga giants Barcelona.

Why Gundogan rejected Arsenal move

Gundogan has now opened up on his decision to reject a move to Arsenal and why he joined Barcelona instead.

According to the ex-Man City ace, it was always his dream as a child to play for the Catalan giants.

"I’m honest. And many people don’t know this: In the end, it wasn’t about a year or two. There was no problem with the running time. City waited a relatively long time until the talks really intensified," Gundogan told BILD.
"If this had happened a little earlier, the situation would have been different. So in the end it was the perfect ending, it couldn’t have come at a better time. It was also my childhood dream to play for FC Barcelona," he added.

Gundogan has gone on to play a key role in Xavi's team, having started all four of Barcelona's La Liga fixtures so far this season.

The Germany international has bagged two assists in the process.

Arsenal backed to challenge EPL title

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Manchester City legend David Silva has weighed in on this season's Premier League title race.

City are among the clubs expected to challenge for the crown, with Pep Guardiola's charges keen to win the trophy for the fourth consecutive season.

The Citizens beat Arsenal to the title last term, with the Gunners losing out in the closing stages of the campaign after a dominant run.
